Situated just inside the border of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Windmill Farm is conveniently located halfway between Johannesburg and Durban, in an area landscaped by the beauty of the vast Drakensberg mountain range. Only 35 km from the Natal National Park, which boasts the worlds second highest waterfall...the TUGELA FALLS. Only 15km from Sterkfontein Nature Reserve.
Windmill Farm is the perfect location for nature lovers and guests wishing to explore all that this beautiful area has to offer. Stay in one of our charming, self-catering cottages, perched along the edge of the plateau. Then relax, breathe in the fresh air, take in the uninterrupted view and let your discovery of the Northern Drakensberg begin.
Sounds of bird life and late night calls of the Jackal and buck will find you in Natures palm. Herds of Eland have claimed the farm as their favourite spot in the winter months with welcoming visits to the cottages doorsteps. There is a troop of 28 baboons who roam close by but not too close for comfort.
This is a true breakaway leaving you with the complete sound of silence. Family owned by The Van Rensburg family who have been in the area for over 35 years. Craig Van Rensburg purchased the farm in July 2012, the farm needed some tender love and care. In the past 7 years major renovations and rebuilding has been done to upgrade the farm to a higher standard. Eight cottages have been completed.
The Phatt Chef Roadside Diner is on the premises, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (closed on Tuesdays in low season).
The tranquil blue of the Sterkfontein Dam; a fishing and water-sports paradise; lies behind us. Ahead of us we enjoy an expansive view of the Northern Drakensberg above the clouds.

All our self catering cottages are clean and comfortable, and fully equipped for self catering, we have 2 sleepers a 4 sleeper and a 6 sleeper
All cottages have fresh towels and linen, as well as DSTV, Free WiFi, and braai facilities and fresh mountain air!
Here are details of each cottage:
Cottage 1: Is a smaller cottage we have not renovated as yet, it has a bedroom with two singe beds, fully equipped kitchen, patio and bathroom.
Cottage 2: Is a new cottage with large lounge dining and kitchen area, as well as a fireplace, bedroom and en-suite bathroom
Cottage 3 & 4: These cottages are next to each other, and have been renovated, they each have en-suite bathrooms, bedroom, DSTV and tea and coffee facilities and a patio, Meals are charged extra from the bed rate on a la-carte menu at the restaurant on the premises, these cottages do not have a kitchen and are room only.
Cottage 5: New cottage. Bedroom, en-suite bathroom, smaller but fully equipped kitchen, patio with dining area, with a front view of the valley.
Cottage 6: This is a fully equipped two sleeper cottage, it and has not been renovated as yet, however the cottage is still comfortable. The cottage has a small kitchen, a bathroom, braai and a patio and front view of the valley.
Cottage 7: New and large two sleeper cottage, bedroom en-suite bathroom, lounge with fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, braai and patio with a front view of the valley.
Cottage 8: New and Large cottage, bedroom with en-suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, open plan dining and lounge area, fireplace, single bed off the lounge area, patio and braai with front view of the valley.
Cottage 9: New and large cottage, two bedrooms both en-suite, fully equipped kitchen, dining room. lounge with fireplace, patio and braai facilities, view of Seletwane mountain and Sterkfontein dam.
Cottage 10: This is a very large cottage, three bedrooms, two bedrooms have two single beds and share a full bathroom, the main bedroom has a full en-suite, kitchen is fully equipped, scullery with dishwasher, lounge, dining area and private atrium.
